Mohamed Aboutrika: Assets Seized and Business Frozen by Egyptian Authorities

MOHAMED ABOUTRIKA’S ASSETS SEIZED OVER ALLEGED BROTHERHOOD LINKS

Troubling times have descended on Egyptian football legend Mohamed Aboutrika, just two years after his retirement from professional football. The former Al-Ahly midfielder, revered across the continent for his talent and charisma, is now facing legal and political pressure from Egyptian authorities.

According to reports, the Deputy Defense Minister, who also heads the financial management committee overseeing Muslim Brotherhood-linked assets, has ordered the freezing of Aboutrika’s assets, citing suspicions of his alleged affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood—a group labeled as a terrorist organization by the Egyptian government.

One of the primary targets has been Aboutrika’s travel agency, which has been seized and shut down. Authorities claim the company may have funded Brotherhood activities, as it was created during Mohamed Morsi’s presidency, a period when Aboutrika publicly expressed his support for Morsi during the 2012 elections.

Despite the serious accusations, the iconic former playmaker remains defiant. In a message shared on Twitter, Aboutrika wrote:

“Take the money, or take the one who has money—I will not leave the country, and I will continue to work for its security.”

Aboutrika, long admired not just for his football but also for his outspoken views and charitable work, now finds himself embroiled in a politically charged controversy, as tensions between the Egyptian government and perceived Brotherhood sympathizers continue. His legacy as a football hero remains intact, but his personal freedom and financial stability may now hang in the balance.
