KOUKO GUEHI: “THIS SEASON HAS BEEN A DISASTER FOR RAJA”
As the Moroccan Premier League nears its conclusion, Raja Casablanca finds itself far from the title race. Sitting seventh with three games left, the season has turned into one of bitter disappointment for the Green Eagles—and midfielder Kouko Guehi hasn’t held back in assessing it.
“To be honest, it’s a negative assessment. Very negative, even,” the Ivorian international told Mountakhab.net. “Raja is used to competing in three competitions. This year, we didn’t win the Throne Cup, and in the league, we were way behind. So it’s a negative assessment, especially for us players. We didn’t live up to the expectations of our fans.”
The midfielder, who was part of the team that reached the Club World Cup final in 2013, called this campaign one of Raja’s darkest chapters.
“This year is undoubtedly one of the worst moments… It’s truly a disaster for Raja and the Moroccan people. Last year too, when we lost the title on the last day. But a professional footballer has to expect anything and be ready to get back up the next day.”
On a more positive note, Guehi recalled his proudest memory in green:
“The Club World Cup final is the best time I’ve had here. We were received by His Majesty King Mohammed VI—it was the best moment of my life. Playing against legends like Ribéry and Ronaldinho, it was exceptional.”
Raja’s failure to advance in the CAF Champions League added salt to the wounds.
“We have to be honest, we lost our qualification in the first leg. We conceded two goals when we had told ourselves we must not concede. We scored two in the return leg, but it wasn’t enough.”
With only pride left to play for in the closing matches, the pressure will be on Raja to regroup and rebuild for next season—and Guehi, for one, seems determined to help lead that charge.
