USM Blida is celebrating their return to the Algerian football elite, having secured promotion to the Ligue 1 after a three-year absence. The club, based in the city of roses, clinched their spot by defeating AB Merouana 1-0 on Friday. With three matches still remaining in the second league, USM Blida holds an eleven-point lead over the fourth-placed team, ensuring they can’t be overtaken.
Coach Kamel Mouassa reflected on the achievement, acknowledging the hard work and dedication that led to this success: “We worked very hard to put USM Blida back in its rightful place. The journey was strewn with pitfalls, and each duel was as intense as a Cup match. But we still rose to the challenge. The credit goes to the players, the management, and the supporters, who each contributed their stone to the building,” he said in an interview with El Watan.
Although the promotion is secured, Mouassa was careful not to discuss his future, stating, “We have just secured our promotion and I consider it premature to discuss other aspects like my future as technical helm. Let’s leave that for later.”
USM Blida’s promotion marks a significant step forward for the club, and it’s clear that they are eager to return to their rightful place in Algerian football’s top tier.
