FECAFOOT clarifies €455,000 embezzlement claims and exonerates Samuel Eto’o
The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has broken its silence on the embezzlement allegations surrounding Samuel Eto’o.
Eto’o, who is the President of FECAFOOT, has been the subject of an embezzlement claim regarding the Cameroon national team’s game against Russia in 2023.
Reports suggest that a total of €455,000 was transferred directly into the former Barcelona striker’s account in Qatar following the friendly game against Russia and Cameroon.
Following this, a former Fecafoot member had allegedly filed a complaint against the ex-Inter Milan forward.
Fecafoot, in a statement in response to the allegations, has denounced the slander aimed at the federation and Eto’o.
“For several days, as has become customary, the Cameroon Football Federation has increasingly been targeted by organised groups whose aim is to discredit its various actions,” the statement read.
“Defamation, slander and insults directed at members of the Executive Committee, and in particular President Eto’o, have become the talk of radio and television shows and social networking forums,” it added.
The statement claimed that fraudulent documents were obtained and analysed in-depth.
In response to the allegations levelled toward Eto’o, the federation stated decisions were made by the collective committee.
“To put to rest the controversy that has been raging for some days over the management of funds generated by friendly matches, it is important to state that all practical decisions regarding the collection of these sums and their use were taken by all the vice-presidents during the Emergency Committees,” it said.
