The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated Ghana 3-1 on Sunday, making a big statement ahead of the start of the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The match against the Black Queens of Ghana was played in Morocco, where the upcoming tournament will be staged next month.
Both national teams went into the game keen on a top performance to win their final friendly before the tournament kicks off.
In the game that produced four goals, Nigeria scored first in the 34th minute thanks to a strike from Chiwendu Ihezuo.
Ten minutes after that goal, the Super Falcons doubled their lead courtesy of a penalty kick converted by experienced attacker Asisat Oshoala.
The two goals gave Nigeria a comfortable lead at halftime, putting the Super Falcons on a path to victory.
After recess, Nigeria increased the lead to three in the 50th minute, this time around it was Rasheedat Ajibade who got her name on the scoresheet.
Although the Black Queens of Ghana laboured to pull one back late in the match, it could not save the side from the heavy defeat.
Nigeria and Ghana will wrap up their pre-tournament preparations for the 2025 WAFCON in the next few days.
The tournament will start in Morocco on July 5 with Nigeria tipped as one of the favourites to clinch the trophy.
