Trésor Mputu Puts International Career on Hold to Focus on Club Duties
It’s a temporary farewell between Trésor Mputu and the DR Congo national team. The iconic midfielder has announced that he is stepping back from international duty — for now.
Speaking to TopCongo FM, Mputu stated:
“For the moment, I’m devoting myself entirely to my club. We’re playing in the Champions League.”
The former TP Mazembe star, now with Kabuscorp in Angola, emphasized his focus on returning to top form:
“I will give my all to get back to my best level and take my team as far as possible in the competition. So I am putting the national team on hold. The priority for now is Kabuscorp.”
Although left out of the Leopards squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Mputu followed the team’s journey closely and expressed pride in their achievement:
“I am very happy with the Leopards’ performance at the CAN. They won the bronze medal, which is very good. I congratulate them. The credit goes to them and them alone. Because they fought on the pitch.”
While fans may be disappointed by his absence from the national scene, Mputu’s commitment to club success shows he still has ambitions to perform at the highest levels — and perhaps return to the Leopards once again in the future.
