Vahid Halilhodzic Praises Algeria’s Collective Strength Ahead of AFCON Quarter-Final

Former Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic has expressed admiration for the national team he led to a successful 2014 World Cup campaign, praising their unity and collective strength as they prepare for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.

Speaking to Le Point Afrique, the Bosnian coach highlighted the team’s cohesive spirit rather than individual star power, contrasting Algeria with African giants like Ivory Coast and Cameroon.

“Let’s just say that there are no players in Algeria of the stature of Drogba or Eto’o. There are no stars in Algeria. The strength of this team is collective. We showed that at the last World Cup in Brazil,” Halilhodzic said.

Algeria advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Equatorial Guinea and are set to face Ivory Coast this Sunday in Malabo — a fixture that promises a keen contest between two of Africa’s top sides.

Halilhodzic’s remarks underscore the importance of teamwork and discipline in Algeria’s recent successes, a philosophy he instilled during his tenure as coach.
