AFCON 2015: President Ali Bongo Reacts to Gabon’s Elimination
Gabon’s journey at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations has come to a bitter end. The Panthers were eliminated after a 2-0 defeat to host nation Equatorial Guinea, and the country’s President, Ali Bongo Ondimba, did not hide his disappointment.
“After this match and the defeat of our Panthers, I am just as disappointed as you. Our Panthers did not lack opportunities, and despite their good start to this 2015 CAN, they unfortunately did not manage to convert. Bravo to the team who, I am sure, gave their all,” the President wrote on Facebook.
Ali Bongo also praised Gabon’s loyal supporters:
“Congratulations to the supporters of Gabon, always there to encourage our team and our country.”
Despite a promising start to the tournament with a win over Burkina Faso, Gabon failed to progress from Group A, finishing behind Congo and Equatorial Guinea.
