AFCON 2015 – Hervé Renard Praises Organization Amid Criticism from Others
While several coaches have voiced concerns over the organizational aspects of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, Hervé Renard, head coach of Côte d’Ivoire, has taken a different stance. In contrast to criticisms from figures like Claude Leroy, Renard expressed his contentment with the conditions surrounding the tournament.
“I watched the matches on TV and I like the atmosphere you see in the images,” Renard told the CAF website.
“As far as we’re concerned, we have no problem since we’re in the most beautiful hotel in Malabo. We’re in a magnificent setting. The stadium is beautiful, there was a very good atmosphere during the first match against Guinea and I think it will be the same during the second since there are a lot of Malians, Cameroonians, Guineans, and Ivorians. That’s what makes the Africa Cup of Nations so charming.”
Renard’s remarks paint a more optimistic picture of the tournament’s environment, particularly in Malabo, where his team is based. However, not all teams share this sentiment. For instance, Tunisia’s national team has faced repeated issues, including water shortages in their hotel accommodations.
Despite logistical setbacks reported by some delegations, Renard’s words underscore that conditions vary widely depending on the venue — and that, for the Elephants, preparations have remained smooth.
