Aymen Abdennour: “I Never Thought About Leaving Monaco”
After a long spell on the sidelines, Aymen Abdennour is gradually making his way back into AS Monaco’s starting lineup. The Tunisian international has now made his fifth start, overcoming the string of injuries and absences that had kept him out of action.
Though still seeking consistency in his performances, the former Toulouse defender remains optimistic and committed to Monaco. Speaking to L’Équipe, he expressed his satisfaction at being back on the pitch and firmly shut down any speculation of a departure.
“I was disappointed to lose my place but not sad. I told myself that I was unlucky,” said Abdennour. “I thought about working even harder, but I never imagined leaving. I’m not like that. I don’t talk — it’s in training that I show desire.”
Abdennour joined AS Monaco on January 31, 2014, in the final moments of the winter transfer window, initially on loan with a purchase option, which the club exercised at the end of the season.
His recent return is a positive sign for both club and country as he looks to regain his top form ahead of key fixtures.
