Lorient President Loïc Fery Regrets Selling Vincent Aboubakar to FC Porto
Despite receiving a significant transfer fee, Lorient president Loïc Fery expresses regret over letting striker Vincent Aboubakar leave for FC Porto. The club, currently struggling in 15th place in Ligue 1, feels the impact of his departure keenly.
In an interview with Ouest-France, Fery admitted:
“Our position in the standings shows that not everything went well during the summer transfer window… and I share part of the responsibility.”
Aboubakar, who scored 22 goals for Lorient last season, has yet to start in any of his four appearances in the Portuguese league, managing just one goal so far. Reflecting on the transfer, Fery said:
“I should have opposed his departure. If I had to do it again today, I wouldn’t do it.”
Lorient’s current struggles underscore how critical Aboubakar was to their attack, and the president’s comments suggest the club might rethink such sales in the future.
