Moroccan club AS FAR has reached an agreement to sign defender Younes Abdel Hamid in the ongoing summer transfer.
The 38-year-old will join the side from French Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne.
The Moroccan international becomes AS FAR’s second signing as they prepare to improve their squad ahead of the new season.
Ashraf El Habassi became the first signing for the club. The 24-year-old joined the side from Tunisian club Sfaxien.
The signings of the two defenders come as replacements for the injured Mauritanian Ahoubib and Akram El-Nagash, who is expected to play professionally in Europe.
Abdel Hamid made 16 appearances for Saint-Etienne during the 2024/25 season..
Who is Younes Abdel Hamid?
Abdel Hamid joined Dijon on a three-year contract on 15 May 2016.
Abdelhamid helped Reims win the 2017–18 Ligue 2 and promote to the Ligue 1 for the 2018–19 season. He was also made the captain of the club.
Following the 2023–24 season, after seven years at Reims, Abdelhamid left the club as a free agent to sign for Saint-Étienne on a one-year contract with an optional additional year.
At the international stage, Abdulhamid was called up to the Morocco national team for a friendly against Albania on 1 September 2016, but did not feature. He made his official debut in a 2–0 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification win over São Tomé and Príncipe.
On 28 December 2023, Abdulhamid was amongst the 27 players selected by coach Walid Regragui to represent Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
