Gervinho: “I’m Not Obsessed with the African Ballon d’Or”
Ivorian forward Gervinho, currently playing for AS Roma, has downplayed the significance of being nominated for the prestigious African Ballon d’Or. Despite being named among the 25 nominees for the coveted title, the 27-year-old striker insists that he is not fixated on the individual award.
Speaking on Luis Attaque on RMC, Gervinho revealed that his primary focus is not on personal accolades but on team successes. “I want to be among the best Africans, but the most important thing for me right now is the qualification of Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) and helping AS Roma reach the knockout stages of the Champions League,” he explained.
Gervinho acknowledged that if he were to win the African Ballon d’Or, it would be a welcome honor, but emphasized that his main priority is contributing to his teams’ collective goals rather than seeking individual recognition.
Having started the season strongly with both club and country, Gervinho remains committed to the collective success of his teams, maintaining that the personal accolades will follow as a byproduct of those achievements.
