Guinea Suffer Camara Blow Ahead of Crucial AFCON Qualifiers
Guinea will have to make do without midfielder Abdoul Razzagui Camara for their final two qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), after the Angers playmaker was ruled out through injury.
Camara, who was expected to join the Syli National camp in Cotonou, Benin earlier this week, failed to report. Initially, the Guinean Football Federation attributed his absence to personal reasons, citing the birth of his partner’s child. However, Angers later confirmed the 24-year-old is sidelined for approximately ten days due to a thigh and knee issue.
The news comes as a setback for head coach Michel Dussuyer, who faces a crucial final round of qualifiers. Guinea remain in contention for a place at AFCON 2015, but must secure points in their remaining fixtures to book their ticket to the tournament.
While Camara’s absence dents Guinea’s midfield depth, the West African side can still rely on one of their key figures: Ibrahima Traoré. The Borussia Mönchengladbach winger has been in sparkling form for his club in recent weeks, and his presence could prove decisive in Guinea’s quest for qualification.
Traoré’s creativity and leadership will be vital as Guinea look to overcome the disruptions caused by both injuries and the challenges of playing away from home. Due to the Ebola crisis, the team has been forced to stage its “home” matches in neutral venues throughout the campaign, including Cotonou.
Guinea’s ability to adapt and respond under pressure will be tested once more in these decisive matches. With Camara out and the stakes high, the Syli will hope their remaining stars can rise to the occasion.
