FLORENT IBENGE LEAVES FUTURE WITH AS VITA CLUB IN DOUBT AFTER CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SUCCESS
After guiding AS Vita Club to a remarkable campaign in the CAF Champions League, coach Florent Ibenge has hinted that his time with the Kinshasa giants may be nearing its end. With his contract set to expire in December, fans are left anxious over whether the man who revitalized their club will stay on.
Speaking to Radio Okapi, Ibenge was candid yet non-committal:
“My contract expires next month. We need to look each other straight in the eye and discuss with the club’s management whether I should renew or not. The club has had great coaches before me, and there will be some after me too.”
While Ibenge acknowledged the club’s proud history, he also emphasized his desire for sustained continental success:
“My wish is for the team to often reach the last four of the continent’s interclub competitions. That it no longer happens after 40 years as has just been the case.”
A Historic Achievement
Under Ibenge, AS Vita Club broke a 40-year drought by reaching the final stages of the CAF Champions League, rekindling pride among supporters and raising expectations. His tactical acumen and leadership have elevated the club to new heights, making the possibility of his departure a major talking point across Congolese football.
As December approaches, all eyes will be on negotiations between Ibenge and club management. Whether he stays or not, his legacy in Kinshasa is already firmly written into AS Vita Club’s modern era.
