André Ayew: “Top Spot Matters Most” After Ghana’s Draw with Guinea

Ghana and Guinea played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday in Group E of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, leaving the group standings finely balanced. Despite the stalemate, Ghana’s André Ayew remains optimistic, emphasizing the importance of Ghana retaining first place in the group.

“We are top of the group with five points. That’s what matters to us. We take it match by match. We lead our group alone,” said the Olympique de Marseille midfielder.

With Guinea and Uganda both on four points and Togo just behind on three, Ayew acknowledged the tight competition but remained focused on maintaining Ghana’s edge.

Looking ahead to the return leg at home against Guinea on Wednesday, Ayew expressed confidence:

“What is important is to go home and win at home… What matters to us is to be the sole leader of our group with five points, to secure our qualification for Morocco.”

Meanwhile, in the group’s other match, Togo revived their campaign with a 1-0 away win over Uganda in Kampala, adding further intrigue to the race for qualification.
