AFCON 2015 Qualifiers: Algeria Win in Malawi to Stay Perfect in Group B
Blantyre — Algeria continued their flawless run in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-0 away victory over Malawi on Matchday 3, further solidifying their grip on Group B.
The Fennecs struck early through Rafik Halliche, who headed home in the 10th minute, giving Algeria the perfect start. Djamel Mesbah doubled the lead later with a deflected strike, ensuring the North Africans left Blantyre with all three points despite a strong second-half showing from the hosts.
While not their most convincing performance, Christian Gourcuff’s men did enough to claim their third consecutive win, maintaining top spot with nine points and inching closer to securing their ticket to Morocco.
Algeria will now aim to confirm qualification at home in the return fixture on Wednesday in Blida, with confidence running high after yet another clean sheet and solid result.
