Cheikh Mbengue on Facing Former Teammate Aymen Abdennour: “We Fear No One”
Ahead of the highly anticipated Senegal vs. Tunisia clash in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Senegalese left-back Cheikh Mbengue has shared his thoughts on going head-to-head with Aymen Abdennour, his former teammate at Toulouse FC.
Mbengue, now at Stade Rennais, revealed that the two defenders spoke ahead of the match — but not about tactics.
“I called him to check on him because he had been injured for a while,” said Mbengue. “We mainly talked about his health and the weather, not much about the match.”
Mbengue acknowledged the quality of the Tunisian defender, who now plays for AS Monaco:
“Aymen has a very high level.”
Still, the Senegalese international is confident in his own side’s strength:
“We have a good squad and we don’t have to worry about our opponent. We fear no one.”
With both teams undefeated and tied at the top of Group G with six points, this fixture is shaping up to be one of the most crucial in the qualification campaign. The match kicks off Saturday at 8 p.m. GMT at the Léopold Senghor Stadium in Dakar.
