Lacazette Shines as Lyon Edge Past Monaco to Climb Ligue 1 Table
Olympique Lyonnais secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AS Monaco on Friday night at Gerland, moving up from 17th to 12th place in Ligue 1 after Matchday 5.
Striker Alexandre Lacazette praised his team’s performance but acknowledged a costly lapse in concentration that allowed Monaco to equalize.
“I think we played a good match from the start,” Lacazette told Canal Plus. “We were united, which is something we lacked in previous matches. Afterwards, as is our habit, we relaxed and Monaco equalized. Maybe we feel too confident when we’re leading, it’s something we need to work on.”
He added that the squad’s physical preparation during the recent break helped them get back to basics, showing a stronger side.
“We saw that it was a different team than before and everyone is happy. I’m happy in Lyon, I’ve been saying for a long time that I wanted this contract extension. It’s done, we’ll stop talking about it and get on with the season.”
Lacazette also praised teammate Nabil Fekir, who scored despite battling a shoulder injury. “Nabil played a good match even if it wasn’t easy with his shoulder. He was rewarded with his goal.”
