Uncertainty surrounds Yassine Bounou’s future at Al Hilal amid coaching talks

Uncertainty surrounds Yassine Bounou’s future at Al Hilal amid coaching talks

Yassine Bounou’s future at Al Hilal remains uncertain amid growing speculation about potential structural changes within the Saudi club, especially in light of reported discussions with Italian coach Simone Inzaghi.

The Moroccan international, who has been a central figure in Al Hilal’s recent campaigns, has found himself at the heart of rumours suggesting a possible shift in the team’s technical direction.

Some reports had claimed that Inzaghi, who is reportedly in talks with the club to take over the managerial role, had signalled his intent to implement significant tactical adjustments — including a change in the goalkeeping position.

Despite this, sources close to Al Hilal have told Kooora that Bounou’s status has not been formally addressed during the club’s ongoing negotiations with Inzaghi.

Contrary to earlier reports hinting at Bounou being sidelined in the upcoming season, those familiar with the matter have dismissed such claims as premature.

According to the same sources, Al Hilal’s management continue to view Bounou as an indispensable member of the first team.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the club in 2023 and has since been a reliable presence between the posts, remains a valued asset in the squad.

“There is currently no question of parting ways with Bounou,” the source said, reiterating the club’s confidence in his contributions on and off the pitch.

Further clarity on Bounou’s long-term future could be provided in the coming weeks. A meeting is reportedly being planned between the player and Al Hilal’s leadership to review his existing contract, which is due to expire on 30 June 2026.

Discussions are expected to include the prospect of a contract extension, reflecting the club’s desire to secure Bounou’s services for a longer period.

The goalkeeper, affectionately known as “Bono,” has earned widespread recognition for his performances at both club and international level. Before his move to Saudi Arabia, he enjoyed a successful spell at Sevilla FC, where he helped the Spanish side win the UEFA Europa League.

His heroics with the Moroccan national team, particularly during their historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, further cemented his reputation as one of the top goalkeepers in global football.

While Bounou has yet to comment publicly on the speculation, his professionalism and consistency have reportedly made a strong impression on Al Hilal’s leadership.

The club remains focused on continuity and is keen to avoid unnecessary disruption to a squad that has competed at the highest levels of both domestic and continental football.

With Simone Inzaghi’s potential arrival still under discussion and no definitive decisions made regarding technical reshuffles, Bounou’s position appears stable — at least for now.

All eyes will be on the forthcoming meeting between the player and club officials, which could prove decisive in determining whether Bounou will continue to guard Al Hilal’s goal well beyond 2026.
