Villareal defender Willy Kambwala has decided to play for DR Congo at the senior national team level.
The 20-year-old born in Kinshasa spent his formative years in France, where he developed himself into a fine footballer.
In his teen years, Willy Kambwala had the chance to represent France at the youth national team level, where he played for the France U16 team.
Although the centre-back could have gone on to play for Les Bleus, he has opted to represent the DR Congo national team.
The decision comes weeks after Aaron Wan Bissaka also chose to play for the Leopards.
Willy Kambwala is expected to provide a defensive boost to the DR Congo national team, being led by Sébastien Desabre.
He is likely to earn his debut call-up to the DR Congo national team in the next assignment in September in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
