In a historic match that ended in a goalless draw between USM Alger and their local rivals, the table-topping MC Alger, the “Algerian Derby” has shattered records for fan attendance in the 11th round of the local professional league.
Organizers sold approximately 60,000 tickets, while the crowd inside the July 5th Stadium in the Algerian capital reached nearly 80,000, according to reliable sources.
Thousands more gathered outside, unfortunate not to secure entry into the stadium.
This unprecedented turnout is now considered the largest in the history of the Algerian league, rivaling perhaps only the match in which Algeria triumphed over Nigeria with a 1-0 scoreline in the 1990 African Cup of Nations final.

The supporters of both USM Alger and MC Alger created spectacular scenes in the stands, in stark contrast to the players’ performance on the field, which failed to meet expectations.
Remarkably, the average fan attendance at MC Alger’s matches at the July 5th Stadium this season has reached around 40,000, establishing another record.
It’s worth noting that MC Alger currently tops the league table with 28 points, holding a 9-point lead over their closest pursuers, JS Saoura.
Meanwhile, USM Alger languishes in 13th place with 8 points, although they have three postponed matches yet to play.
