Egyptian giants Al Ahly have appointed Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro as their new head coach heading into the new campaign and will be assisted by Carlos Nodar.
The former Orlando Pirates coach replaces Marcel Koller as the substantive coach following his sacking weeks ago. Koller was shown the exit door after failing to snatch CAF Champions League final spot.
He penned a two-year contract to take charge of the most decorated club on the African continent.
Riveiro comes in with an enormous experience following a successful three-year spell with the South African giants, lifting five trophies for the club.
Despite enduring a trophyless run in the recently concluded campaign, the Spanish tactician made the Cup competition final, finished second in the South African league and also featured in the CAF Champions League seminal with Pirates.
The Spanish gaffer was released out of his contract to open negotiation with the Egyptian giants, ending his three-year stint. Following a fruitful discussion, the highly-profiled coach has been appointed to lead the record CAF Champions League holders.
Having secured the job, Riveiro is expected to lead Al Ahly in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament to be stage in the USA next month. The Egyptian club has been drawn in Group A alongside Palmeiras, Porto and Inter Miami.
Riveiro’s full technical team:
Carlos Nodar (assistant coach)
Miguel Pepeira (physical trainer)
Juan Jose (goalkeeper coach)
Sebastian Podsiadly (performance analyst)
Emad El Nahhas (General coach)
