Newcastle close in on £50m Mbeumo swoop as Man Utd circle

Newcastle United appear to be closing in on the signing of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with reports suggesting the Magpies are now in pole position to secure his services despite growing interest from Manchester United.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle have made the 25-year-old Cameroon international a key target as part of their plan to reinforce their attack during the summer transfer window.

Mbeumo ended the Premier League season in scintillating form, registering 20 goals and seven assists—placing him just behind top scorers Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Erling Haaland.

Mbeumo’s consistent output has not gone unnoticed, with several clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

However, Newcastle’s approach has gathered momentum, and it is understood that manager Eddie Howe has been given the green light to proceed with the deal.

The Magpies are believed to have the necessary financial backing to meet Brentford’s £50 million valuation, making the transfer “good to go.”

Manchester United, while interested, remain focused on Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha as their primary attacking target.

That dynamic could work in Newcastle’s favour, as Mbeumo may see a clearer path to regular playing time under Howe.

For now, Newcastle’s pursuit of Mbeumo seems the most advanced, with optimism growing that a deal could be finalised early in the transfer window.
