Racing Genk’s Ngongca Anele Faces Injury Setback Ahead of Belgian League Season

Racing Genk defender Ngongca Anele is set to miss the start of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League season due to a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The South African right-back, who recently extended his contract with Genk until 2018, will be sidelined for several weeks. This comes as a significant blow for the 26-year-old, who had been expected to play a key role in Genk’s campaign.

Genk’s season kicks off next week, with their opening fixture scheduled away at FC Mechelen on July 27. Anele is now confirmed to be unavailable for this match, leaving the club to seek alternatives in defence for the early part of the season.

In addition to Anele’s absence, Genk will also be without Ghanaian midfielder Bennard Kumordzi, who is recovering from jaw surgery and requires a period of rest. Meanwhile, Anthony Limbombe, the Congolese-born Belgian winger, is hopeful of returning to the squad next week following a back injury.

Despite these setbacks, Racing Genk will test their squad strength in a friendly match against Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday evening. The match will provide an opportunity for coach to assess available players and experiment with formations ahead of the competitive season.

Ngongca Anele’s injury presents a challenge for Genk as they prepare to defend their status in Belgium’s top division. The club and supporters will be eager for the defender’s swift recovery and return to full fitness.
