The national team’s official delegation was ceremoniously dispatched on a mission for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023. The flag presentation, a symbol of national pride and unity, was a momentous occasion attended by key football figures and dignitaries.
Five distinguished players selected for AFCON 2023 graced the event, namely Leonel Ateba, Faris Moumbagna, Clinton Njie, Fabrice Ondoa, and Wilfried Douala.
Joining them were the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, and the revered coach of the Cameroon national team, Rigobert Song.
The solemn task of receiving the national flag fell upon the shoulders of Fabrice Ondoa, a testament to his pivotal role in the squad.
The Director of the Civil Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Samuel Ayolo Mvondo, presided over the symbolic handover.
In his address, Mvondo conveyed a message of unwavering support and national expectation.
“By handing over the flag, Cameroon is sending you on a mission to Ivory Coast for AFCON 2023.
The people will support you throughout your journey in the competition.
We hope for a positive return to the country in February.
With that, we wish you good luck,” expressed Mvondo, encapsulating the collective hopes and aspirations of the nation.
In a touching moment, Fabrice Ondoa, the custodian of Cameroon’s aspirations, entrusted the flag to Coach Rigobert Song, signifying the commencement of their mission.
The delegation is set to embark on its journey on Saturday, December 30, 2023, with Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as the initial destination.
The preparations for AFCON 2023 will intensify with the first training session scheduled for December 31, 2023, marking a pivotal step in their quest for glory.
As the Cameroon delegation sets forth, the nation stands united, rallying behind its team with the fervent hope of witnessing a triumphant return from Ivory Coast in February 2024.
