CAF Champions League: Egyptian govt to send fans to support Pyramids FC ahead of Sundowns clash

The Egyptian government has thrown its weight behind Pyramids FC ahead of their crucial first leg of the CAF Champions League final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pyramids will first clash against the South African side at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, May 24, before hosting Downs in the second leg at the 30 June Stadium on June 1.

The Sky Blues have already landed in South Africa as they prepare for the first leg, and now their country’s government is doing everything possible to help them make their country proud.

According to reports from Egypt, Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, will organise a number of fans to support the team over both legs.

Pyramids, who are said to have been established in 2008 as Al Assiouty Sport, and bought by new owners in 2018, is amongst clubs that have a lower number of fans in the Egyptian Premier League.

However, the Egyptian government has stood up to rally behind them ahead of a tough assignment against the one-time Champions League winners Sundowns.

“Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, has given all necessary instructions to ensure Pyramids FC’s full support in the African final,”  the spokesperson for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mohamed El-Shazly, said on On Sport radio, per Elaosboa.

“During the final match, a large crowd of fans will be gathered to support Pyramids against Sundowns, and the number of fans may reach 10,000.

“Minister Ashraf Sobhi will make every effort to support Pyramids FC, which will represent Egypt in the final.”
