Leekens takes charge as Tunisia face South Korea in World Cup warm-up

Tunisia’s new head coach, Georges Leekens, is set for his first test in charge of the Carthage Eagles this afternoon, as they take on South Korea in a high-profile international friendly.

The match serves as vital preparation for Tunisia ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, set to take place in Morocco. Leekens, the experienced Belgian manager, is expected to use the opportunity to assess several players, with Bilel Mohsni and Slim Ben Jemia among those being closely evaluated.

For South Korea, the fixture is a key part of their build-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Asian side has been drawn into Group H alongside Algeria, and they see Tunisia as a useful opponent to simulate the style of play expected from the North African team.

Korean manager Hong Myung-bo is eager for his side to face a competitive challenge, and the Carthage Eagles are expected to provide exactly that, even as they remain in transition under their new coach.

Tunisia’s starting line-up for the match is as follows: Farouk Ben Mustapha in goal, with Syam Ben Youssef, Aymen Abdennour, and Hamza Mathlouthi in defence. The midfield features Bilel Mohsni, Slim Ben Jemia, Houssine Nater, Yassine Mikari, and Wissem Yahia. Zouheir Dhaouadi and veteran striker Issam Jomâa complete the attack.

While the outcome of the friendly may not be crucial, both sides will be keen to gain confidence and momentum ahead of their respective campaigns. For Tunisia, it’s a chance to lay the groundwork under Leekens. For South Korea, it’s an opportunity to fine-tune ahead of the global stage in Brazil.
