Salah matches Henry record with third Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award

Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year for the third time, reaffirming his status as one of the Premier League’s most influential players.

The Egyptian forward earned the prestigious award after a stellar season in which he scored 28 goals and registered 18 assists for Liverpool in the Premier League.

His contributions have been instrumental in Liverpool’s charge to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title under manager Arne Slot.

Salah’s performance this season set a new benchmark for goal involvements in a 38-game Premier League campaign, highlighting his exceptional playmaking and finishing abilities.

He received nearly 90 percent of the votes from football writers, the largest winning margin recorded this century, underlining his impact on the pitch.

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, followed by Newcastle striker Alexander Isak in third and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice in fourth.

This marks the third time Salah has claimed the FWA award, having previously won it in the 2017-18 and 2021-22 seasons.

This achievement puts him level with former Arsenal icon Thierry Henry as the only players to have won the award three times.

Salah, 32, recently ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.

His decision to extend his stay provides a significant boost to Liverpool’s ambitions as they aim for a record 21st English title next season, potentially moving them ahead of Manchester United as the most successful club in English top-flight history.
