Barcelona Target Vincent Kompany and Paul Pogba in Summer Overhaul Plans
FC Barcelona is preparing for a significant summer shake-up as the club seeks to rebuild key areas of its squad ahead of next season. Following a campaign marked by inconsistency and early exits in European competition, the Catalan giants are set to part ways with several players—and they’ve already begun identifying high-profile targets to rejuvenate both the defence and midfield.
According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have shifted their focus to bolstering their defensive line and central midfield. Among their top targets is Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany. The Belgian international, 28, is seen as a potential anchor in defence—a position that has troubled the club in recent seasons due to injuries and ageing players.
Kompany, who has featured in 26 matches this season for City, remains one of the most respected defenders in European football. Barcelona are reportedly hoping to capitalise on City’s troubles with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, believing this could pressure the English club into negotiating a deal. If successful, Kompany would bring leadership, physicality, and Premier League experience to a Barça backline in need of a commanding presence.
In midfield, the Blaugrana are continuing their long-standing pursuit of French star Paul Pogba. The Juventus midfielder, whose stock continues to rise with every passing season, is seen as the ideal long-term replacement for the likes of Xavi and Andrés Iniesta. While Pogba has previously been linked to several top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, Barcelona believe that their playing style and competitive project could persuade the former Manchester United man to choose Catalonia.
Barcelona’s ambitions extend beyond the spine of the team. In goal, German international Marc-André ter Stegen has already been identified as the club’s next number one. The Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper is expected to join officially this summer, succeeding Victor Valdés, who is leaving after more than a decade of service.
In attack, Barça continues to monitor Sergio Agüero. Though signing the prolific Argentine striker from Manchester City would present financial and competitive challenges, his strong relationship with Lionel Messi could play a role in any potential move. Agüero, one of the Premier League’s most consistent goal-scorers, would add firepower to an already lethal front line and provide another dimension to Barcelona’s attacking options.
The coming transfer window promises to be one of the busiest in recent memory for the Camp Nou hierarchy. With the club determined to return to the summit of European football, fans can expect an aggressive approach in the market—one that blends world-class signings with strategic squad development.
