The Black Satellites of Ghana secured their first win at the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Monday evening, beating defending Champions Senegal by a goal to nil.
In the match played at Suez Stadium, both national teams went into the game determined to give everything for the three points, especially after drawing their opening games at the tournament.
At the end of the contest between the two top teams, Ghana carried the day thanks to a solitary strike from Emmanuel Mensah in the 15th minute after he was set up by talented forward Jerry Afriyie.
The win has improved Ghana’s chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Satellites are second in Group C with four points, behind DR Congo on same points but superior goal difference.
Senegal follows in third while the Central African Republic sits bottom of the table.
Ghana must now prepare for their final Group C game against the Central African Republic on May 8.
