Arsenal are reportedly lining up Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande as a possible successor to William Saliba, should the French international leave the Emirates this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners have identified Diomande as a top target in anticipation of mounting interest from Real Madrid.
Saliba, who is of Cameroonian heritage, has emerged as a central defensive pillar under Mikel Arteta and is attracting serious attention from the Spanish giants.
While the 24-year-old remains under contract at Arsenal until 2027, reports suggest Madrid view him as a long-term defensive solution and are preparing an approach for his services.
In the event of Saliba’s departure, Arsenal are expected to pursue Diomande, the Ivorian international currently on the books of Portuguese side Sporting CP.
Diomande, 21, has impressed in the Primeira Liga with his physicality, composure, and tactical discipline, qualities that have reportedly caught the attention of several top European clubs.
The defender is also contracted to Sporting until 2027, and the Portuguese club is understood to be demanding a fee in the region of €80 million to sanction his sale.
That valuation reflects Diomande’s growing reputation and the long-term potential he offers as a top-level centre-back.
While Arsenal are under no immediate pressure to offload Saliba, the possibility of a major bid from Real Madrid could alter their stance.
Saliba has been central to the Gunners’ defensive solidity over the past two seasons, and any move would likely necessitate a swift replacement.
Diomande, who has already established himself as a full Ivorian international, is seen as a player capable of stepping into the role with minimal adaptation.
With both players tied to long-term deals, any transfer movements are likely to be costly — but Arsenal appear prepared to act decisively if the situation develops.
