Cameroon: Manchester United eye €70m move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo in summer overhaul

Manchester United have identified Bryan Mbeumo as a prime summer transfer target, with the Premier League giants reportedly prepared to invest €70 million to lure the Brentford forward to Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international has emerged as a leading candidate to spearhead United’s offensive rebuild following a dismal domestic campaign.

Mbeumo’s standout season with Brentford—netting 18 goals and registering 7 assists in 38 appearances—has placed him firmly on the radar of top Premier League clubs, but it is United who appear most determined to secure his services.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils have launched a focused effort to bring the 25-year-old to Manchester, placing him above other attacking targets such as Viktor Gyökeres and Matheus Cunha.

Mbeumo, under contract at Brentford until 2026, could be at the heart of a substantial squad revamp under manager Ruben Amorim, who is seeking urgent reinforcements in attack.

Speaking about his future, Mbeumo recently hinted at his openness to a step up.

“I want to take the next step,” the Cameroonian admitted, fuelling speculation over an impending exit from west London.

Trained at Troyes in France, Mbeumo has grown into one of the Premier League’s most effective forwards, known for his versatility, movement, and clinical finishing—qualities United desperately need.

At Old Trafford, optimism remains scarce following a turbulent Premier League campaign.

While a strong Europa League run has offered a glimmer of hope, including a dominant 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, the club’s 15th-place league standing paints a bleak picture.

Goal-scoring has been a persistent issue, with the attacking duo of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling to make a consistent impact.

Højlund, despite being tipped as a future star, has found the net only 9 times in 47 appearances—a statistic that has underlined United’s glaring need for a reliable forward.

Ruben Amorim, appointed in November, has made it clear that fresh attacking options are a top priority heading into the transfer window.

With a substantial budget at their disposal and a desire to reassert themselves among Europe’s elite, United view Mbeumo as a transformative addition capable of leading their frontline into a new era.

Should the deal materialise, it would represent a pivotal moment in Mbeumo’s career—offering him the platform to test himself at one of football’s most storied institutions, while giving United fans hope of a long-awaited resurgence.
