Pellegrini Confirms Vincent Kompany Will Feature Against Sunderland
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has reassured fans that captain Vincent Kompany will be fit to play in Wednesday’s rescheduled match against Sunderland, despite a recent knee scare that had left supporters worried.
The Belgian international had to stop training last Saturday due to the injury, which raised concerns ahead of the weekend’s clash with Liverpool. However, Kompany was cleared to play in that match, although his performance was marred by some lapses in City’s 3-2 defeat, with Kompany being involved in all three of Liverpool’s goals.
Pellegrini, speaking to the press ahead of Wednesday’s fixture, confirmed that his captain would feature against Sunderland. “Vincent is better, he will be on the team sheet tomorrow,” Pellegrini said, offering an optimistic update on his condition.
City, currently sitting third in the Premier League, are in a tight battle for the top spots, trailing second-placed Chelsea by five points and league leaders Liverpool by seven. However, City have two games in hand, and a win against Sunderland would help them stay in contention for the title.
