Togo Launches Commission to Appoint New National Football Coach
Lomé, Togo — 2 May 2025
The Togolese government has formally launched a technical commission to oversee the selection of a new head coach for the national football team, the Hawks (Éperviers), following the departure of Didier Six.
The commission, comprised of 11 members from various institutions, began its work on Tuesday at the Ministry of Sports headquarters in Lomé. It includes five representatives from the Ministry of Sports, three from the Togolese Football Federation (FTF), one from the civil service, one from the Ministry of Finance, and one independent football expert.
The group will spend two days assessing applications before compiling a shortlist of five candidates. The final appointment is expected to be made shortly thereafter.
FTF President Ameyi Gabriel, who is also part of the commission, underlined the importance of the selection process, drawing attention to the national team’s recent achievement at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“It’s a decisive moment for us, especially given our qualification for the last AFCON,” said Gabriel. “We need a coach who can build on that performance. We reached the quarter-finals—thanks to God, the Head of State, and the Federation. Now we aim to go further.”
The evaluation phase will take place in Notsè, approximately 95 kilometres from the capital, on 16 and 17 April. The final candidate will be chosen based on merit, experience, and alignment with the federation’s ambitions.
The selection marks a new chapter for Togolese football, as the nation looks to continue its progress on the continental stage with a strong and visionary leader at the helm.
