Togo U20 Set for Friendly Ahead of AFCON Qualifier Against Morocco
2 May 2025 — Togo’s U20 national team will step up preparations for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a friendly against local side AS Togo Port on Wednesday at the Lomé Municipal Stadium.
The match is part of head coach Adam Fazazi’s build-up to the crucial second-round qualifier against Morocco. The first leg will take place on 11 May in Lomé, with the return leg scheduled for later this month in Morocco.
The young Hawks reached the second round of the qualifiers without playing a match, after Equatorial Guinea withdrew from the competition. While that passage offered Togo a smoother start, the technical team is now focused on ensuring the squad is match-ready for the challenge posed by Morocco.
Coach Fazazi sees the warm-up match against AS Togo Port, one of the country’s top-flight clubs, as a key opportunity to test tactical systems and assess player readiness. It will also give players valuable game time as they continue to build chemistry and match fitness.
“This friendly will help us measure our level and fine-tune preparations,” said a member of the coaching staff. “Morocco is a very strong side, and we need to be ready both physically and mentally.”
The upcoming fixtures represent a significant test for Togo’s junior side, who are hoping to qualify for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament serves as a major platform for young African talents and could provide an opportunity for several Togolese players to shine on the continental stage.
The squad is expected to feature a mix of domestic talents and a few overseas-based players, with final selections to be made after this week’s friendly.
