Kevin Constant Faces Uncertain Future at AC Milan Amid Defensive Reshuffle

AC Milan defender Kevin Constant could be heading for the exit door this summer, with the club reportedly targeting reinforcements at left-back. Despite being under contract until 2017, the Guinean international may be surplus to requirements at the San Siro as the Rossoneri prepare for a squad overhaul.

According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Milan are eyeing several potential replacements, including Liverpool’s Aly Cissokho, Newcastle United’s Davide Santon, and Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrão. The club is said to be prioritising a specialist in the left-back role ahead of the 2014–15 campaign.

Constant, 26, has found playing time increasingly limited under head coach Clarence Seedorf. Since the former Dutch international took over in January, competition in defence has intensified, further restricting Constant’s role.

The Guinea international has made just 14 Serie A appearances this season, totalling 1,109 minutes — a relatively modest contribution for a player once seen as a key part of Milan’s defensive plans.

Originally brought in from Genoa in 2012, Constant’s versatility and athleticism initially earned him favour. But recent form and the club’s disappointing domestic campaign have prompted management to consider structural changes, particularly along the backline.

The potential arrival of a new left-back this summer would almost certainly push Constant further down the pecking order, likely prompting the player to seek more regular opportunities elsewhere.

While no official statement has been made by either the player or club, speculation continues to grow as Milan prepare for what is expected to be an active transfer window.

With the Rossoneri currently outside the European qualification spots, Seedorf and the Milan board are under pressure to reshape the squad and restore the club’s status among Italy’s elite. Defensive consistency — and depth — remains a key priority.

For Constant, a move could provide the chance to revitalise his career and secure more consistent playing time, particularly as he remains an important figure for the Guinea national team.
