U20 Africa Cup of Nations: Momoh Kamara’s hat-trick inspires Sierra Leone to thump Egypt 4-1
A sensational hat-trick by Momoh Kamara inspired Sierra Leone to come from behind to thump Egypt 4-1 in the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The two U20 national teams locked horns on Wednesday night in a Group A encounter at this year’s U20 AFCON.
Sierra Leone had a bright start to the contest and scored after 24 minutes courtesy of a strike by Samuel Gandi.
The goal was immediately disallowed due to a foul in the buildup.
After that incident, a close contest ensued between the two teams before Egypt took the lead in injury time through an equaliser from Ahmed Khaled before the halftime break.
In the second half, Momoh Kamara put on a show for Sierra Leone, silencing the home crowd with three sensational goals.
The forward scored his first in the 63rd minute before adding a second three minutes later.
He then equalised in added time to complete his hat-trick. The other goal that made it four goals for Sierra Leone on the matchday was a penalty kick converted by Sallieu Bah.
The result has propelled Sierra Leone to the summit of the Group A standings at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament with four points.
Egypt are now second on the table with three points.
