Houston Dynamo have confirmed the signing of English forward Toyosi Olusanya from Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, marking the 26-year-old’s first foray into Major League Soccer.
The striker, who holds Nigerian heritage, has signed a contract with the American club that runs until June 2026, with an option to extend through 2028.
The move signals a fresh chapter in Olusanya’s career as he transitions from European football to the competitive landscape of the MLS.
Houston announced the transfer on Wednesday, with the club highlighting Olusanya’s potential to inject pace and power into their attack.
The transfer is reportedly valued at $250,000.
“It’s a new challenge and I’m excited to get started,” Olusanya said following the announcement. “I’ve heard great things about the league and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team.”
Olusanya joins from St Mirren, where he has been a consistent presence in the Scottish top flight since 2022.
In the current season, he has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists — figures that underscore his attacking contribution.
Before his time in Scotland, Olusanya’s career included spells at several lower-league English clubs, including a stint at Middlesbrough.
He began making a name for himself with strong performances that eventually earned him a move to the Scottish Premiership.
The striker’s versatility and work ethic have impressed coaches and scouts alike, and his adaptability will be a valuable asset as he adjusts to the style and intensity of MLS football.
His move to Houston Dynamo also adds to the growing list of European-based players making the transition to North America in search of new opportunities and challenges.
Houston Dynamo, who don the colours of orange, black, and white, are seeking greater attacking efficiency as they aim for a strong showing this season.
The arrival of Olusanya is seen as a strategic move to bolster the squad’s offensive depth.
With his contract at St Mirren originally set to run until May 2025, the transfer concludes his Scottish chapter earlier than expected.
As Olusanya settles into life in the United States, fans will be eager to see if he can replicate — or surpass — the form that caught Houston’s attention in the first place.
