Dimitry Bertaud has shared his insights on the Africa Cup of Nations, identifying three formidable contenders for the coveted trophy in Ivory Coast.
The DR Congo goalkeeper is gearing up for his debut in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Democratic Republic of Congo as others name their favourites for the title.
In an exclusive interview with the French press, the Montpellier goalkeeper who has been named in his country’s final squad for the AFCON expressed his anticipation for the upcoming tournament and pointed out his top favorites.
While discussing the potential winners, Bertaud prominently featured the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with Morocco and the host nation, Ivory Coast.
“I will say Morocco, Ivory Coast, which will play at home with the support of the public, and us, the DRC. I wish a very good African Cup to my club teammates who will compete in it,” declared Bertaud, showcasing his confidence in the Leopards’ capabilities.
As he eagerly anticipates his first AFCON appearance, Bertaud outlined his personal objectives for the competition.
“Personally, I would say work well and ensure that the group lives well and that we work well together so that we can go as far as possible in this adventure,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and unity.
Discussing the challenging Group F, where DR Congo is grouped alongside Morocco, Tanzania, and Zambia, Bertaud acknowledged the formidable competition within the group.
“It’s a tough group. We no longer present Morocco, which had a very good final phase of the World Cup.
We know the qualities of each player who makes up this team. Zambia is also a great African football nation.
They also won the CAN a few years ago. As for Tanzania, I know this team much less. I will learn to find out with what the staff tells us,” he explained, acknowledging the strength of the opposition.
Bertaud’s insightful comments provide a glimpse into the competitive dynamics of AFCON 2023 and underscore the excitement building up to the tournament in Ivory Coast.
