Egyptian footballer Sam Morsi has responded to the circulating news regarding his alleged refusal to join the Egyptian national team in the upcoming period.
Speaking exclusively to Yalla Kora, Morsi categorically denied expressing any reluctance to be part of the national team.
Morsi affirmed his desire to be included in the final roster for the African Cup of Nations, expressing his commitment to representing Egypt in the prestigious tournament.
This clarification comes in response to reports from the British newspaper, Daily Times, which suggested that Morsi had informed the Football Association of his decision not to join the national team.
The player, who currently plays for Ipswich Town, holds nine international caps with the Egyptian national team, with his latest appearance being against Tunisia in September’s camp.
However, he was absent from the national team’s camps in October and November.
The African Cup of Nations 2023 is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11.
Egypt, placed in Group 2 alongside Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, will kick off its campaign against Mozambique on January 14.
Concerns arise for Ipswich Town’s manager, Kieran McKenna, as the potential inclusion of Sam Morsi in the national team could lead to his absence from approximately five crucial matches against Sunderland, Leicester City, Rotherham, Preston, and West Bromwich Albion.
Ipswich Town currently sits in second place in the Championship table with 53 points, trailing leader Leicester City by six points.
The prospect of losing Sam Morsi, a key player, poses challenges for the team’s continued success in the league.
