Modern Sport Club weighs Egyptian League exit over refereeing problems

Modern Sport Club’s board, led by Walid Dabbas, gathered urgently on Thursday night to deal with a tough call that is pulling their football team out of the Egyptian Premier League.

The emergency session sprang from mounting frustration over relentless refereeing blunders that have plagued the squad’s standings all season long. The club zeroed in on the officiating during their latest clash with Enppi, claiming it tipped the scales unfairly and cost them the game.

“Despite the referees’ committee’s repeated apologies for the errors, they are still ongoing and clearly visible to everyone,” the statement read.

“Enough is enough with the ongoing refereeing errors against Modern Sport, and no one knows who benefits from them or why the team is being fought in such a blatant manner.”

The sting of defeat was fresh from Thursday’s match at Petro Sport Stadium, where Enppi snatched a thrilling 2-1 win in the relegation phase’s second round. Enppi climbed to 15 points, barely escaping the drop zone, while Modern Sport, under Algerian boss Abdelhak Benchikha, languished at 12 points, staring down relegation.
