Moroccan defender Adam Aznou is poised to return to Bayern Munich ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States this summer.
Currently on loan to La Liga’s Real Valladolid until June 30, Aznou is set for an early return to Munich due to an injury to Alphonso Davies.
FIFA’s special transfer window, running from June 1 to 10, permits Bayern to recall Aznou before the tournament kicks off in the U.S. on June 14.
By that time, Valladolid, who are currently at the bottom of La Liga, will have completed their season.
“The plan is for him to join the team for the Club World Cup,” said Bayern’s sporting director, Freund.
Davies is expected to be sidelined for up to eight months due to a knee injury, while Dayot Upamecano is also out with a knee issue.
Aznou, who had limited appearances in Bayern’s first-team squad earlier this season, has become a regular starter since his loan move to Valladolid in January.
Freund believes the loan spell has been crucial for Aznou’s development.
“He’s making significant strides in his career. It was the right decision for him. Now, he needs as much playing time as possible.”
