Kenya's Johnstone Omurwa secures move to Azerbaijan's Kapaz FC

Kenyan defender Johnstone Omurwa has completed a move to Azerbaijani Premier League side Kapaz FC, signing a short-term contract until the end of the season.

Omurwa, who previously played for Saudi Arabian club Abha, joins Kapaz as they battle to improve their standing in the Azerbaijani top flight.

The club confirmed his arrival in an official statement, highlighting his experience as a central defender and expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen their defensive line.

“Our team has signed Johnstone Omurwa. The Kenyan footballer has signed a contract until the end of the season. Omurwa plays as a central defender. The 26-year-old’s last club was Abha in Saudi Arabia,” the club announced.

Omurwa arrives at a crucial time for Kapaz, who currently sit ninth in the ten-team Azerbaijani Premier League, with 23 points from 27 matches.

With the season approaching its final stretch, the Kenyan international is expected to play a key role in helping the team avoid relegation.

The former Wazito FC and Petro Atlético defender brings a wealth of experience, having also featured for Portuguese side Estrela da Amadora before his stint in the Saudi Pro League.

His ability to read the game and command the backline will be vital for Kapaz as they look to turn their fortunes around.

Omurwa could make his debut as soon as Sunday when Kapaz take on Sabail FC, the league’s bottom-placed side.

The match presents an opportunity for his new team to secure valuable points and for the Kenyan defender to make an immediate impact.

As he embarks on this new chapter in Azerbaijan, Omurwa will be eager to showcase his talent and prove his worth on the European stage.

His move to Kapaz represents not only a fresh challenge but also a chance to re-establish himself as a key figure in professional football.
