Zambia FA elections halted by court injunction, FIFA suspension looms

The long-awaiting Football Association of Zambia Elective Annual General Meeting scheduled for this Saturday, March 29, 2025, will not take place following an interim injunction issued by a court.

A judgement by the High Court for Zambia prohibits FAZ President Andrew Ndanga Kamanga and General Secretary Reuben Kamanga from proceeding with the elections, as inputting into the situation is needed as election procedure has anomalies that are presented before the courts.

The court has also directed the National Sports Council of Zambia to install a Transitional Committee to run FAZ affairs until the matter is concluded.

The action throws the administration of Zambian football into question, as FIFA does not typically tolerate government or court interference in football.

There is also a threat of a FIFA ban, where Zambia would be suspended from international football if the world governing body decides this is undue interference.

The injunction also raises questions of governance and transparency in FAZ, with stakeholders divided on whether the ruling safeguards fair elections or derails football stability.

While the court battle continues, football fans and administrators await further directives.

The next few days will determine whether FAZ can navigate this legal hurdle without inviting FIFA’s dreaded hammer of suspension.
