Arne Slot reveals Feyenoord resistance to Algerian winger Hadj Moussa’s signing

Feyenoord forward Anis Hadj Moussa played for several weeks with a fractured rib, former interim coach Pascal Bosschaart has revealed.

Bosschaart, who briefly took charge of the Dutch club in February, was particularly struck by the Algerian’s determination and resilience.

Speaking in an interview with VoetbalPrimeur, he praised the player’s unwavering commitment despite his injury.

“We sometimes have our opinions about Hadj Moussa. What no one knows is that he played for a while with a fractured rib. He simply continued to play football,” Bosschaart said.

Remarkable dedication

The revelation has taken many by surprise, as playing through such an injury is rare.

Bosschaart acknowledged that the striker’s performances this season may not have been at their best but insisted that his dedication could not be questioned.

“You might think it’s not logical, indeed. But this boy has shown a strength of character that I can only appreciate,” he added. “Of course, we can discuss his performances this season, perhaps a little below par, but someone who works so hard and puts his pain aside definitely has an advantage.”

Hadj Moussa’s commitment to the team, even while injured, is now seen as a key reason behind his recent struggles on the pitch.

Absence from Algeria squad

Bosschaart’s comments also shed light on Hadj Moussa’s absence from Algeria’s latest international squad.

Ahead of the national team’s training camp, head coach Vladimir Petković announced that the forward would not be included due to injury but did not disclose the specifics.

The decision to leave him out appears to be a precautionary measure, allowing him to fully recover before returning to competitive action.

A mentality of steel

Despite facing criticism for inconsistent performances this season, Hadj Moussa has demonstrated a remarkable level of perseverance.

Playing through a serious injury highlights his dedication, and his willingness to endure pain for the team has not gone unnoticed.

As he recovers, Feyenoord and Algeria will be hopeful that once fully fit, Hadj Moussa can rediscover his best form and make a stronger impact on the pitch.
