Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, the ex-Bayern Munich striker, has quickly settled into life with the New York Red Bulls, where he’s already notched a goal in five appearances since joining the MLS side a few months back.
Celebrating his 36th birthday today, March 24, 2025, the Cameroonian forward is relishing his move across the Atlantic, a bold shift from his European career.
In a chat with Kicker, he shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m very happy to be here. It has been a special step away from Europe. I don’t have to say much about New York, that’s a mega city.”
While he finds it tricky to stack the MLS up against European leagues, Choupo-Moting praises its quality, noting, “not bad, physically very good in any case. You can also see that more and more international players are coming to America, it will be more attractive.”
He even hinted at big names eyeing the league, revealing that many well-known players “would like to come to America.”
Looking ahead, he’s excited for a potential reunion with his old Bayern teammates when the club World Cup hits the U.S. in summer 2025, with New York hosting the semi-finals and final. “I hope to see the boys in summer,” he added.
