Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen fires hat-trick to become Turkey Super League’s top scorer

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting a hat-trick for Galatasaray in their recent Turkish Super League match against Antalyaspor.

This remarkable performance brings his season tally to 20 goals in 22 league appearances, and 26 goals with 5 assists across all competitions for the Turkish giants.

Osimhen’s journey to Galatasaray began after a loan move from Napoli, following unsuccessful transfer negotiations with clubs like Chelsea and Al-Ahli. Despite these setbacks, he has flourished in Turkey, attracting renewed interest from top European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

In December 2023, Osimhen extended his contract with Napoli until 2026, which includes a €130 million release clause.

However, his market value has experienced fluctuations, dropping from €110 million at the start of 2024 to approximately €75 million currently.

This depreciation could make him a more attainable target for clubs seeking his signature.

Galatasaray is keen on retaining Osimhen’s services beyond his loan spell. The club’s management has proposed a unique initiative, suggesting that each of their 35 million fans contribute $1 to fund a permanent transfer. Osimhen has expressed his happiness at Galatasaray and his desire to continue with the team, despite interest from other major European clubs.
