Ghana-based academy owner Michail Antonio returns to London Stadium for the first time tonight after crash
West Ham United forward Michail Antonio is set to make an emotional return to the London Stadium on Monday, March 10, 2025, ahead of the Premier League match against Newcastle United.
This appearance marks his first at the stadium since a serious car accident in December 2024.
On December 7, 2024, Antonio, owns Kumasi-based Samba Stars Academy, was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Epping, Essex, resulting in a lower limb fracture.
The accident occurred weeks after he visited Ghana to oversee the progress of the academy. He underwent surgery and spent three weeks in the hospital recovering.
In support of Antonio’s return, the fan group Ironworks Alliance organized a crowdfunding campaign to create a banner honoring him. They plan to display it in the Bobby Moore Lower stand during the match.
West Ham United has encouraged fans to be seated by 7:50 PM to participate in welcoming Antonio back. The club expressed their support, stating, “We’re welcoming Michail Antonio back to London Stadium tonight as he makes a pitchside appearance before the Newcastle game.”
Antonio’s recovery has been progressing, with reports indicating he is working diligently in the gym. He aims to make a full return to play by May. His resilience and determination have been evident throughout his rehabilitation process.
During Antonio’s hospitalization, the West Ham community rallied behind him. Players wore his No. 9 shirt before their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 9, 2024, and visited him in the hospital.
The club also raised nearly £60,000 through an auction of signed jerseys and match-worn kits, with proceeds benefiting the NHS and Air Ambulances UK.
