FC Utrecht coach criticizes Sébastien Haller despite scoring return

Borussia Dortmund seeking permanent exit for Sébastien Haller amid Utrecht success

FC Utrecht manager Ron Jans has openly criticized Sébastien Haller’s recent performances, despite the Ivorian striker finding the net for the first time since returning to the Eredivisie.

Haller played a crucial role in Utrecht’s clash against Willem II, scoring his first league goal since rejoining the Dutch side.

However, his display did not entirely convince Jans, who was critical of the striker’s attitude and preparation in the days leading up to the match.

“Sebastien had a really poor, even bad week of training. I have to be honest,” Jans told ESPN, as reported by De Telegraaf. “I didn’t think he had the aggression in the first half either.”

Despite his initial criticism, the Utrecht coach acknowledged the importance of Haller’s goal in boosting his confidence.

The striker’s ability to assert himself after scoring did not go unnoticed.

“But he scores this goal and immediately takes a ball with authority on his chest,” Jans added. “Confidence is very important, even for experienced and very good players. So I think he needed it.”

Haller, who previously enjoyed successful spells in the Eredivisie with Utrecht and Ajax, is working to regain top form after injuries and inconsistent performances hampered his return.

While his goal against Willem II marks a step in the right direction, Jans’ remarks suggest the Ivorian must improve his overall contribution to secure a more prominent role in the team.

With Utrecht pushing for better results in the league, Haller’s response to his coach’s criticism in the coming matches will be closely watched.
